Steve reaches halfway point in round-the-world challenge
An incredible update from Steve Aslin, who is now nearly halfway through his 30,000-mile round-the-world cycle in support of the Grenfell Foundation.
Since setting off in June, Steve has travelled through 24 countries, including Germany, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Nepal, visiting fire stations along the way to raise awareness of Grenfell and fire safety.
Steve has now raised more than £16,000 for the Foundation and has spoken to BBC London about his journey so far. His next major milestone is New York, which he hopes to reach in September 2026 for the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, before eventually returning to London in 2027.
We are hugely grateful to Steve for everything he is doing to keep Grenfell in people’s hearts and minds around the world, and wish him the very best for the next leg of his journey.

Stephen Aslin is raising money for the Grenfell Foundation, embarking on a round-the-world solo bike ride to support the cause and raise awareness. He will begin his 30,000 mile challenge on the 8th anniversary of the fire on the 14 June. The government has announced that Grenfell Tower would be demolished and works will begin in June 2025. This is a very sensitive issue for bereaved families, the survivors and the local community. It also means this year’s anniversary could be the last one with the Tower still standing.

The Grenfell Public Inquiry has published its second and final report. This marks the end of the Public Inquiry and the lengthy process to find out exactly what happened that night and the series of events leading up to it. Sir Martin Moore-Bick found that “every single death was preventable'‘ and that families were “failed at every level”.
